Waste analysis represents one of the strengths of Laser Lab since its foundation.

In order to be updated about the Regulations, Methods and Guidelines, our team of experts actively participates in the working groups, both at a National and at European level. The goal is to keep track of the changes and regulatory additions that control the classification, characterization and management of waste. We aim to provide laboratory operators with state-of-art equipment and tools to develop, validate and use methods that are reliable and that provide a defensible result in every HQ.

The Quality Management System, with the attendance in numerous interlaboratory circuits, guarantees continuous data control.

One of our most important values, which we’ve always cultivated in Laser Lab, is customer assistance in the waste sector. In fact, the laboratory provides them with constant updates through periodic newsletters, seminars, conferences and webinars.

Regarding the analytical activity, the laboratory offers full support all along the value chain, starting from the evaluation of the production cycle that originates the waste and the chemical process involved and its nature (Sampling Plan functional) to the choice of the specific analytical profile to be applied. The preparation of the analytical results obtained is then followed by the hazard assessment and the possible attribution of the hazard characteristics on the basis of the criteria established by the current legislation.

Services

The Laboratory is specialized and accredited in the analysis of waste developed by the various production cycles: ashes, slag, earth and rocks, metal waste, aqueous and organic liquid waste, mixed demolition waste, oils, plastics, cellulosic materials, sludge, filter materials/absorbents and PPE, solvents and emulsions.

The high range of tools available allow you to carry out dedicated and specific analytical investigations for each type of matrix.

The laboratory processes the waste samples by providing the expertise of its technicians, in order to follow in detail all phases of the analytical process:

  • Preparation of specific Sampling Plans pursuant to UNI EN 14899
  • Sampling according to UNI 10802 for the different types of matrices
  • Product analysis of waste pursuant to UNI 9246 and IPLA DIVAPRA
  • Preparation of test portions according to UNI 15002
  • Speciation of some metal compounds useful for the correct classification
  • Analysis of PCBs, Dioxins and Furans, POPs (Persistent Organic Pollutants), Hydrocarbons, PAHs, Volatile and Semi-Volatile Organic Compounds, Pesticides, XRF Elements
  • Insights through tests and trials, performed according to official test methods, for the evaluation of hazard characteristics: HP1 "explosive", HP2 "oxidizing", HP3 "flammability" for solid and liquid waste, HP3 "flammability in contact with water ", HP12 "gas evolution of acute toxicity in contact with water or acid"
  • Skin corrosion and irritation test for the evaluation of the hazard characteristics HP8 "Corrosive" and HP4 "Irritant - Skin irritation"
  • Ecotest on aquatic species for the evaluation of the HP14 "ecotoxic" hazard characteristic
  • Analysis of manufactured articles and building materials for the control of asbestos in cementitious or resinoid matrices (DRX, SEM, FT-IR techniques)
  • Based on the detected type, analysis of artificial vitreous fibres for the carcinogenicity evaluation (HP7)
  • Analysis of the Real Dynamic Breathing Index (IRDR) and the Potential Dynamic Breathing Index (IRDP)
  • Measurement of radioactivity through the determination of gamma-emitting radionuclides
  • Classification of waste according to current legislation
  • Assessment for landfill disposal according to current legislation
  • Evaluation of waste for recovery according to current legislation.

Finally, thanks to the experience gained in the sector, Laser Lab also offers highly professional support in the analytical and classification of secondary solid fuels / waste derived fuels. With precision, speed and reliability we determine all the parameters required by current legislation and specific authorizations (metals, lower calorific value, ash softening temperature, etc.)
